Nowhere on the Desertilandfilms page does it say that ALL movies listed there are in the public domain
and well wikipedia.... it`s a nice idea ... but when it comes to stuff like this... (i hope you realise that if Columbia Pictures want to sue you for this it is possible that you have to pay for the rest of your live for just this one upload) ...I would not trust it
look at couchpotato... just a few minutes of research and he know for sure

Don`t get me wrong i don`t ´hate` you and i don`t want you to stop uploading movies ... i just want to make sure that you ,and everyone else, really check all sources available on the net to make sure that the title you like to upload is in the public domain
because the Record/Movie Industry don`t go for the Hosting Service anymore they will go for the one who uploaded the copyrighted material and that can be very painful and people like kimpunkrock won´t help you with one penny, that`s for sure ...
he will propaply move on to the next one who serves his entertaining needs for free and will go anal again on anyone who try to help people :)

A hypothetical situation. Someone presents a list of the posters that
he finds "most idiotic and obnoxious" on this forum:

prissypinhead
microcephalousmike
k-otik
kevinmccretin

What would be the normal reaction of a person named in that list?

1. That offends me.
or
2. He didn't say that EVERYONE on the list was idiotic.

To respond with 2. would be breathtakingly dishonest.

The FAQ at Desert Island Films shows

Q. What am I allowed to do with the materials?

A. Anything you want. You cannot, however, lift the music and
use that by itself in another production; or use a recognizable
face when advertising a product.

So Desert Island is selling the film as public domain, and people
are using excerpts from it commercially without paying any royalties.

"The Great Mike"
"The Great Rupert"
"The Green Glove"

Desert Island Films does not appear to do its research. See couchpotato's post below regarding Bank Robbery; doing a quick browse on the DIF website they also include "Metropolis" and others that are under copyright.

This archive is not here for abuse. If you want to download illegal content try BitTorrent or something similar. K-otic and others are concerned with its preservation and if the film industry were to slap IA with a cease-and-desist, the Feature Films could well be taken down. It would not continue in its present form.

Hi every one,

I'm not a copyright expert in any way. I always think that if all else fails, just go to the US Copyright web sight. It doesn't always have the answer you're looking for, however, looking up this movie took all of 90 seconds.

All political opinions aside, I would tend to believe the government's web sight over Desert Island Films.

Anyone who gets their screen name from a fake soap opera band has got to be the biggest busy bodied moron in the whole entire universe. I suggest you email me for further insults. What don't you understand? Read the "Welcome" message above and the FAQ. With few exceptions, this Archive is public domain. The only exceptions are those submitted by the owner. IA does not have license to offer copyrighted marerial. Doing so would subject IA to lawsuits. K-otic does the Archive and all of it's patrons a service.
